Up until very recently, this time of year, this post-holiday-dead-of-winter slump has always been my least favorite time of year. In fact, saying it is my “least favorite” is actually a generous way to describe it because that makes it sound like it was up near the top of my list of favorites and just barely edged out by the other more obviously appealing seasons. The truth is I’ve always hated this time of year because of how the biting cold feels physically, and how the near-constant darkness feels emotionally. However, a few years ago, I decided to get pro-active. Right after Christmas, when the end of break was in sight, I’d make a list of small things to do and look forward to between January and spring. At first, my list focused mostly on TV premieres, but it seemed embarrassing that the primary thing I looked forward to in life was a new season of my favorite TV show, so I branched out. I started listing things like recipes I wanted to make, nearby malls I wanted to explore, and people I wanted to visit (Parallelism). This year, a few weeks into January, I realized something. This time of year that I once dreaded has now actually become one of my favorites. Yes, it is dark and cold, but I have fewer demands on my time, which means I have more time to spend exactly as I want to.
I am not doing this one because I expect that if I did, many of you will just copy MY links. I want you to find your own! Seriously, it won't be hard. Use the Google!
It's ugly to paste an ENTIRE address into the text of your blog post. Instead, to make a link, highlight the text you'd like to link, click the chain icon above the text box, and paste the address in the top row of the box that pops up. Easy-peasy! Don't forget to post AND publish when you're done! |
